A Message from Ken Herar
Mission has been my home all my life. It’s where I grew up, played sports, built lifelong friendships, and made my home with my wife, stepdaughter, and our dogs.
Since 2018, I’ve had the privilege of serving as your City Councillor. I’ve tried to bring an independent voice to City Hall, ask questions, and remember that every dollar we spend belongs to the taxpayers.
There’s still work to do. We need to protect essential services, keep our neighbourhoods safe, watch how we spend, and make good decisions about Mission’s future. Residents also deserve straight answers and openness from City Hall.
I’m asking for the opportunity to keep doing that work for the community I’ve always called home.
For me, it has always come back to something very simple: people matter, and Mission matters.
Mission Has Always Been Home
Long before I was on Council, I believed in getting involved and giving back. Sports have always been a big part of my life, as have writing, community organizations, and projects that bring people together. I founded Cycling4Diversity and have spent many years visiting schools and working with youth and community groups.
Eight years on Council has reinforced something I already knew: you can’t represent people if you lose touch with them.
For me, that means listening, asking questions, hearing different points of view, and then making the best decision I can.
We may not always agree, but I’ll always hear you out.
Platform Priorities
Responsible Taxation
Families, seniors, and businesses are feeling the cost of almost everything going up. I’ll keep pushing for careful spending, clear priorities, and value for taxpayers.
Transparency & Accountability
Residents have a right to know how decisions are made and where their tax dollars go. When people ask reasonable questions, they deserve answers.
Restoring Trust
I support hiring an independent internal auditor to regularly review city spending, departmental operations, and financial controls, and to identify areas for improvement or savings.
Safer Neighbourhoods
Public safety matters. I’ll support practical improvements that make our streets and neighbourhoods safer.
Responsible Growth & Planning
Mission is growing, and we need to plan carefully. I support growth that adds housing and infrastructure while protecting our quality of life. I will continue supporting rural Mission initiatives and listening to community concerns.
Roads & Transportation
As Mission grows, so does the pressure on our roads. I’ll continue supporting practical improvements to roads, intersections, pedestrian safety, and transportation planning while making sure taxpayers receive good value for those investments.

Serving Mission Since 2018
Eight years on Council has taught me a lot about how our city works, where the challenges are, and why it’s important to ask questions before making big decisions.
Supporting Mission Fire Rescue Service
Public safety is one of the most important responsibilities of local government. I will continue to support Mission Fire Rescue Service and make sure our firefighters have the staffing, equipment, training, and resources they need to serve our growing community.
Supporting Essential City Services
Public Works, Bylaw Enforcement, and other frontline employees keep Mission running every day. I’ve seen our Public Works crews out during difficult winter conditions, and I know how important dependable equipment and resources are when the community needs them.
Investing in Parks & Recreation
Parks and recreation give people places to meet, play, stay active, and enjoy their community. But I also believe we need to pay attention to how those projects are funded.
Supporting Our Historic Downtown
Downtown Mission is an important part of our community's identity and local economy. I support practical improvements that encourage residents and visitors to spend more time downtown and support our local businesses.
Making Mission's Assets Work for Our Community
Mission’s Municipal Forest is something few communities have. Managed responsibly, forestry revenue can help pay for capital projects and community priorities rather than putting the entire cost onto property taxpayers.
Community Comes First
Some of my best conversations as a councillor haven’t happened around the Council table. They’ve happened at a community event, at a sporting activity, inside a local business, or during a conversation with someone I run into around Mission.
Those everyday conversations matter to me.
I was involved in this community long before I was elected, and being on Council hasn’t changed how I see Mission. This is still home, and the people I meet are my neighbours, friends, local business owners, and families I’ve known for years.
That’s why I believe a councillor should be visible, approachable, and willing to listen.
People Matter.
Why I'm Seeking Another Term
Mission has changed a lot over the last eight years, and there are some big decisions ahead. Growth needs to be managed carefully, essential services need to remain strong, and taxpayers need to know their money is being spent wisely.
I know the job after eight years on Council, but I don’t believe experience means you stop questioning things. Sometimes experience tells you when to ask another question, take another look, or listen more closely when residents tell you something doesn’t feel right.
I want to bring that experience and an independent voice to the next Mayor and Council.
I still have something to contribute, and I’m not finished working for Mission.
Moving Mission Forward
Serving as your councillor has been one of the great privileges of my life. Mission isn’t simply the city I represent. It’s home. I grew up here, played sports here, made lifelong friends here, and built my life here with my family.
I’ve watched Mission change over the years. Some changes have been exciting, and others have brought challenges. Through all of it, I’ve never forgotten how fortunate I am to call this community home.
I won’t pretend I’ve gotten every decision right, and I know we won’t always agree. What I can promise is that I’ll listen, ask the tough questions, speak up when I believe something needs to be said, and never forget who I’m there to represent.
After eight years on Council, I still have the same desire to serve that brought me there in the first place. I would be grateful for the opportunity to continue giving back to the community that has given me so much.
On October 17, I respectfully ask for your support and your vote.
We won't always agree on every issue. What I can promise is that I will listen, ask questions and continue working hard for the community I've always called home.
